Healthy And Delicious Replacements For Bread

By Natanya Brouze
There are many people around the world who are trying to cut down on the amount of bread they eat, either to try and lose weight or because they have a sensitivity to gluten. However, it can be harder to cut out bread than you think. After all, for many of us, it has become a staple in our breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. If you want to try and cut out the amount of bread you eat, these replacements are both healthy and delicious.

Cloud or Oopsie bread

Depending on where you live in the world, you might know this as a cloud or Oopsie bread. It’s super simple to make and is one of the most popular low-carb bread replacements. Made using eggs, cream cheese, and salt, all you need to do is whip it together and stick it in the oven. This will satisfy your bread cravings and is also packed with protein instead of carbs, so it will help keep you fuller for longer. Oopsie bread is ideal to use as burger buns or even to pack with your favorite sandwich fillings.

Corn tortillas

There are two different types of tortilla bread available, wheat and corn. While both are a bit healthier than bread, you probably want to opt for corn if you have a gluten intolerance. They’re really easy to make yourself if you want to, but you can also find them in most grocery stores if you would rather save some time. They are ideal to replace bread for things like lunches and they also make excellent pizza bases. Simply cover a corn tortilla in some tomato sauce and your favorite toppings, pop in the oven for a few minutes, and voila! A gluten-free pizza that is much better for you.

Lettuce leaves

Lettuce leaves, replacing bread… What?! Yep, it can be done. Big leafy greens are ideal for those who want a much healthier alternative to bread, but still want all the deliciousness of a sandwich. You can pack a lettuce leaf with some of your favorite fillings, then scoff them up. They’re perfect for things like tacos or tortillas as well, as you can fill them with different meats and veggies. Lettuce wraps will hold up better than you think, so you can even use them as a work lunch by putting them in a lunch box.

Cauliflower bread

This is another bread replacement that has taken the world by storm recently, especially when used for pizzas. You have to grate up an entire head of cauliflower and then cook it up first. Next, you mix the cooked cauliflower with egg and cheese before flattening it out and cooking it again. The baked cauliflower is low in carbs and fat, but makes an excellent replacement for bread in plenty of situations. Cover it with all of your favorite toppings – and more cheese, of course – to create the healthiest pizza ever!

The next time you feel like you’re ‘going without’ by cutting bread from your diet, try one of these healthy and delicious replacements instead. You won’t regret it!
