I Created My Ultimate Holiday Wardrobe With 5 Outfits From & Other Stories

From Thanksgiving to holiday parties, dressing up around this time of year can be a lot to plan for, not to mention expensive, if you have the habit of buying something new only to wear it on one special occasion and never again. Well, in an effort to curb that ubiquitous but very unsustainable shopping habit, I've made it my personal style M.O. to invest in quality basics that I'll want to style with everything — and for many years to come.

Unsurprisingly, Stockholm export (and H&M sister brand) & Other Stories has become a go-to for many R29ers (myself included!) looking for unique, affordable (but not fast-fashion) pieces that offer stylish options like cozy sweaters, chic blazers, and cool-girl accessories, among many other things. I mean, I think we can all agree that a certain brand of effortless, Scandi-chic is having a moment, right?

You might remember not too long ago, R29's fashion market editor Emily stopped by Everlane's new Brooklyn store to road-test some of the brand's latest pieces. Well, earlier this month, I popped over to & Other Stories' SoHo store to see their new holiday styles and take endless mirror selfies in the name of journalism. This was a treat for me as I cover beauty for R29 and I'm usually neck-deep in toners and highlighters, not cozy sweaters. For my first 'fit, I was looking for something I could wear during the weekend for max cozy vibes. This wool camel trench coat was exactly what I imagined the most ladylike, self-actualized version of myself would wear on leisurely strolls in the park. My day-to-day style is pretty basic – I'm not big into crazy prints or anything – so I paired it with this fuzzy wool sweater and a high-waisted black midi skirt that felt effortlessly cool while also looking like I was Making An Effort.

Thanksgiving Day is usually reserved for spending time with my family clad in stretchy pants for hours on end. However, my favorite way to spend Thanksgiving Eve is with my high school crew, preferably over boozy milkshakes at the Silver Diner. I had an emotional reaction when I saw this cute, oversized baby blue turtleneck, and since I'm far from the resident R29 fashion expert (ahem, that would be Emily!), I went for a monochrome moment with a Yves Klein-blue mini. On the accessories front, a prim croc-leather bag means I won't be slowed down with a bulky tote. Lastly, I'd probably add some sheer black tights as a finishing touch because I'm not about the whole bare legs-in-winter thing.

Out of all the new pieces I tried on, this ensemble was probably closest to what I already have in my closet. I was going for an elevated office party look here, with the pièce de résistance being this slightly boxy double-breasted blazer in my signature hue of emerald green. (I did not want to take this off.) I kept things simple with one of & Other Stories' new silk blouses, which are perfect and drapey and chic. I was surprised at how much I liked these tailored checked plaid trousers, and paired with some pointy-toe pumps, I'd feel like I'd really be nailing this badass, corporate queen energy.

For a holiday that's all about staying at home and marathon eating, my approach to Thanksgiving dressing is all about comfort. This alpaca wool sweater from & Other Stories' cool collab with artist Giorgia Lupi is definitely out of my comfort zone of solids, but still felt me when paired with these relaxed-fit black trousers ("relaxed fit" = eat as much pumpkin pie as I want) with a hint of wide leg. At 5'2, I used to quickly run away from anything with a wide-leg cut, so I was really surprised that I was pulling these off. (I am pulling them off, right? Right?)

My boyfriend and I celebrated our anniversary this month, so I wanted to put together a date night outfit that would take me from dinner to drinks to seeing a local band play at our favorite venue in Williamsburg. This sheer turtleneck is a more "me" take on the going-out top, and one of the store's stylists paired it with this beaded strapless bustier top for a layering moment. I liked how this quilted velvet skirt would also be perfect for a festive, Christmas-y outfit later in the year, and the pearl-studded padded headband added just a hint of glam.
