Everlane’s Recycled Outerwear Collection Is Growing — & It Will Ship Free For The Next Few Hours

There’s a lot to like about Everlane: their transparent, direct-to-consumer pricing, accessible and body-positive model casting, and, lest we forget, consistently classic wardrobe staples that still feel thoroughly modern and fresh. That would probably be enough for us, but there’s an additional hook that always keeps the brand on our top ten lists: their ever-expanding selection of recycled fabrics. (Word to the wise: Everlane is offering free shipping until 9 p.m. PST tonight on some of these earth-friendly goods: their ReNew and ReDown outerwear collections.)

In 2019 alone, the brand unveiled three repurposed materials: ReKnit (a footwear fabric spun from recycled plastic bottles); ReDown (a collection of recycled-down outerwear), and ReCashmere (a collection of recovered sweaters rewoven from the precious goat-hair fiber). And let’s not forget last year’s launch of ReNew (a range of recycled-plastic polyester fabric used in a range of outerwear, tops, and intimates).

In addition, this spring saw the birth of Tread, a sneaker imprint that pledged to “make the world’s lowest-impact sneakers ever”, according to a statement from the brand, whose initial design — The Trainer — contained a sole that was almost 95% free of virgin plastic.

With so many eco-friendly options in the mix, we decided it was time to round up all of them, for a deep dive on each one. Click through to see all of the re-purposed fabrics that Everlane has to offer, along with an explanation of what’s actually going into the material and what styles you can actually own it in. There’s almost enough here to ensure that your entire wardrobe is recycled — and if Everlane makes good on their promise to eliminate virgin plastic from their supply chain by 2021, that may just be possible.

At Refinery29, we’re here to help you navigate this overwhelming world of stuff. All of our market picks are independently selected and curated by the editorial team. All product details reflect the price and availability at the time of publication. If you buy something we link to on our site, Refinery29 may earn commission.

ReDown

Fabrication: 100% recycled down
Styles: Puffy Puff and Sleeping Bag Puffer

The mix of goose and duck down that fills two of Everlane’s coziest coats is collected from pillows and comforters that have gone to collection bins throughout Europe. The down is then sorted by quality and sterilized for re-use. (These two toppers are also constructed with 100% recycled polyester, making them highly sustainable choices for your winter wardrobe.)

ReWool

Fabrication: 62% recycled wool; 38% recycled nylon.
Style: Italian Overcoat

Just launched this week, ReWool re-purposes premium wool and blends it with recycled nylon for durability. So far, this sleek, masculine cocoon coat is the ReWool only silhouette.

ReKnit

Fabrication: 88% recycled polyester; 12% nylon and elastane; Italian leather trim
Styles: Day Glove and Glove Boot

The chic and breathable fabric that makes up one of our favorite flats is, happily, quite eco-friendly. Everlane spent years developing the lightweight knit material, which is made with a recycled polyester that re-purposes plastic bottles (eight per shoe, to be exact). When the brand launched a boot version of the flat, we all went wild — and word to the wise; new, fall-friendly colorways of the Day Glove are hitting the site in November.

ReCashmere

Fabrication: 60% recycled cashmere; 40% non-mulesed, extra-fine merino wool
Styles: Stroopwafel Turtleneck and Crew, Vintage Crew, Button Mockneck, and Varsity Cardigan

Everlane’s Italian mill collects discarded cashmere sweaters and repurposes them into new ones, blending the recycled yarn with animal-friendly merino wool to create new colors. We love the plethora of fall-friendly options in the assortment, and there’s even more in the pipeline: look out for a cozy ReCashmere jumpsuit, set to arrive on-site towards the end of November.

Tread

Fabrication: 94% non-virgin plastic; Leather Working Group certified leather
Styles: The Trainer

Let’s not forget Everlane’s first foray into the notoriously un-sustainable world of sneakers. This spring, they launched the Trainer, a sneaker that’s almost 100% free of new plastic thanks to a blend of natural and recycled rubbers. The “clean” leather of the trainer’s upper comes from a Vietnamese factory that uses solar energy and significantly less water to process their hides.

ReNew

Fabrication: 100% recycled polyester
Styles: Recent ReNew launches include the Military Parka, Heavyweight Bomber, and Long Parka

“In just 60 years, we’ve created eight billion tons of [plastic],” said Everlane CEO Michael Presyman in a letter on the company’s website, “and [it’s] destroying the environment.” Part of Everlane’s well-known pledge to eliminate new plastic from its supply chain by 2021, ReNew is the most extensively offered material in the brand’s eco-friendly lineup. In addition to a wide selection of outerwear, tops, intimates, and handbags, a sleek carryall tote in the eco-friendly material is set to launch next week.
